Establishing a Service Centre using CMMIŽ for Services

The CMMI® Services Constellation has not been published in its final form, but it provides a useful foundation and guiding principle for the establishment of new organizations focused on the delivery of services. At maturity level 2, much of the content will be familiar to users of the CMMI® Development Constellation. The increased focus on Service Delivery and the introduction of concepts including Service System and Request Management System allow service-based organizations to gain traction very quickly.

This paper reviews the experience of the organization using the Services Constellation to establish a new service-focused section. It examines the fit of existing CMMI® concepts with the services environment. Finally the relatively low threshold required by CMMI® maturity level 2 is examined as a means of minimizing start-up risk and maximizing reward in contrast with other service-focused standards.
