Proof that Process Improvement Works
Many conference presentations focus exclusively on the process improvement "success stories" that companies have realized using process improvement models such as the CMMIsm.
Time and time again, we all attend conference presentations that explain how best to "succeed" but rarely do we hear about how best to handle our "failure" and, at least in my 25 plus years of engineering experience, we seem to fail at process improvement at least as often as we succeed.
This presentation focuses on some of these so-called "failures" that we've encountered at BAE Systems Network Systems and how we then used these opportunities to help shape and focus our future process improvement efforts.
This presentation includes several scenarios of process improvement based on true stories from the first company to be evaluated at Maturity Level 5 for CMMI® Version 1.2. These events actually occurred within real-life organizations on real-life projects that employed real-life people and all measurement indicator charts shown came from actual reported company data!
This presentation was previously offered in Las Vegas at the April-May 2008 Systems & Software Technology Conference (SSTC) hosted by the Software Technology Support Center (STSC) of Hill Air Force Base (USAF) with much success and audience interest.
