Enterprise Resiliency: Building process capability to sustain the business
Governance is a board-level issue that affects shareholder value and requires a strategic refocusing of disciplines in business continuity, information security, and operations. Innovations are needed by organizations to successfully manage these converging disciplines and to address operational risk. This is a pervasive problem in the industry for which a new way of thinking and applying process solves. The concepts of process improvement and process maturity are particularly meaningful in this domain because they establish a mechanism by which an organization can measure its competency and capability to manage operational risk activities and to provide the feedback necessary to govern.
The benefits of taking a process improvement approach to managing resiliency at an enterprise level to improve IT governance include:
* Establishing consistent risk drivers
* Explicit focus on strategic objectives
* Potential to eliminate redundancy and cost
* Measurable and manageable processes
* A roadmap for maturing processes and performance
* Provides a foundation for consistent behavior in times of stress
* Aligning the operational practices with the strategic drivers of the organization The CERT Resiliency Engineering Framework (REF) will be featured as one way of putting IT governance in a process improvement context.
