Jonathan Dean is a process improvement consultant with Casmaran Ltd. He is currently working with a large UK government department, helping them to baseline their existing processes and move up through the CMMI maturity levels. Jonathan started his career as a software developer before moving into project management roles and, in recent years, process management and process improvement. Working primarily within the defence/aerospace industry, he has worked for several large UK defence contractors (BAe Systems, GEC Marconi Avionics and Aerosystems International). Jonathan is a Chartered Engineer and a Chartered IT Professional.

Graham Dick is the practice leader for process improvement at Lamri and has over 20 years of software engineering and process improvement experience implementing disciplines as varied as UML, Use cases and RUP both within and without a CMMI framework. Graham spends time working with organisations to translate the results of CMMI appraisals into pragmatic improvement plans and working with their management teams assisting them place the benefits and implications of CMMI based process improvement initiatives into the context of their own organisation's needs. Kieran Doyle is a leading process improvement consultant with Lamri Ltd, he specialises in the practical application of the CMMI in a business context. Kieran has helped a global defence contractor in their CMMI journey to maturity level 3 and supported CMMI programmes in many industry sectors including Telecoms, Finance and Retail. Before becoming a consultant Kieran lead the process improvement programme for System X software development within Marconi. Andrew Griffiths joined Lamri in 2003 as Managing Director: bringing his experience of large-scale process improvement, RUP deployment and out-sourcing to the Lamri team. Andrew has worked in process improvement since 1994 using many tools and techniques including CMM, CMMI, Booch, UML, DSDM, RUP, Objectory and various development tools across the lifecycle. He is a regular speaker at conferences and seminars on topics including the application of CMMI, Off-Shoring, Programme and Architectural Governance. Andrew is a regular contributor to the BCS annual review and has written a number of published articles on process improvement and technology strategy.

Neil Grover joined Lamri as a consultant in 2005 and has experience working with a range of clients in the UK and mainland Europe. Previously he was a Process Improvement Manager within JP Morgan Chase Investment Bank, leading the process improvement programme in the Rates, Market Risk and Cross Business e-Commerce groups. All these groups were successfully appraised at CMMI Maturity Level 2 and selected business units went on to achieve and maintain CMMI Maturity level 3. Prior to joining JP Morgan Chase, Neil spent 14 years with Lloyds TSB performing a wide range of roles, including developer, systems analyst, test manager, project manager and quality manager, and also worked for several years as a freelance process improvement consultant. Neil is an SEI authorised CMMI Lead Appraiser.

Lisa Harker is an SEI CMMI Candidate Lead Appraiser, qualified Internal Auditor and experienced process improvement professional with management experience gained across a wide range of industrial sectors with Unisys, a major United States technology multinational corporation. Lisa has been actively involved with CMMI since its inception in Unisys. From 2002 to 2004, she managed a team of 7 Process Architects in 9 financial software development centres, situated across 3 continents, which included teams of Process Engineers in the 4 financial software development centres in the UK, to achieve the objective of CMMI Maturity Level 2. From 2004 to date Lisa has played a crucial role within the Unisys Software Development SEPG, which spans 5 Industrial Sectors. She has specific responsibility for the Appraisal process and in this role she has co-designed an automated ClearQuest Assessment Tool, which enables Process Architects, from the software development centres, to self assess their development centres projects against the CMMI Level 3 Process Areas.

Roger Lewis began his industrial career in procurement and then transferred into finance. He qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant in 1971 and attained the Diploma in Marketing in 1976. For over 30 years he has held board positions as CFO or CEO in a wide range of companies from engineering, electronics and pharmaceutical manufacture (including clinical trials and complementary healthcare products).

Since 1998 he has worked as a consultant in a variety of companies covering acquisition, disposal, strategic planning and business process management.

Recently appointed Director General of the not-for-profit company Governance & Compliance Organisation (GCOrg) which brings together all aspects of corporate and performance governance from around the world.

Dr Jurek Malecki

Dr Jurek Malecki holds his PhD in applied mathematics and offers over 20 years commercial IT industry experience in various roles ranging from senior developer to project and process manager. With strong background in mathematical modeling and systems dynamics, Jurek worked over last ten years on the mission critical transaction processing systems for national lotteries (with GTECH) and banks (with Citibank). Jurek is certified as a project manager (by the PMI and ISEB of the British Computer Society) and enjoys his current role as a core member of the GTECH Corporation Process Engineering Group. Jurek amplifies his effectiveness and efficiency as a change agent using the Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Neuro-Semantics of which he is a certified master practitioner.

Lord Mackenzie of Framwellgate OBE

IT in Government

Lord Mackenzie was a chief superintendent in the Durham Constabulary and is a former president of the Police Superintendents' Association of England and Wales, a post which he held for three years. He was vice president for the previous two years. Having graduated in law with honours from London University, Lord Mackenzie is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Quantico, Virginia in the United States. He served as head of his force drug squad and also as head of the crime computer project team, spending two years in an advisory capacity seconded to the Home Office. He is a former governor of the Police Staff College, Bramshill and was a member of the Police Training Council for five years.

He was awarded the OBE in the 1998 New Years Honours for services to the Police Service and the Police Superintendents' Association of England and Wales. Having retired from the police service on 5th May 1998, he was raised to the Peerage on 17th July 1998, and was chairman of the Peers' Home Affairs Group in the House of Lords between 1998 and 2003. Lord Mackenzie was a special advisor on policing issues to the former home secretary, Jack Straw from 1998 to 2001.

Lord Mackenzie was appointed president of the Joint Security Industry Council (JSIC) from 2000 to 2005 and is now an honorary Patron. He is also president of the Association of Police and Public Security Suppliers (APPSS) and Vice President of the Defence Manufacturers Association (DMA).

Paul Morgan has over 20 years experience of business administration and technical program management within the commercial and government industry sectors. He joined GTECH in 1997 as the Director with responsibility for managing multi-million dollar system deliveries utilizing software development centres located in UK, Ireland, and Northern Europe. In 2001 he was invited to set up a new Software Engineering Process Group with responsibility for leading the corporate-wide software process improvement initiative. This led in 2004 to a successful Level 3 CBA IPI in an organization spanning across six continents. He has experience of working within a number of different process improvement frameworks including, ISO9001 TICKIT, BS7799 Information Security, Capability Maturity Model (CMM®), Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI®). Richard Woodgate

Doing it for Real - experiences of reaching CMMI Maturity Level 4

Richard Woodgate Until the end of 2005, Ric held the position of Head of Business Process at Aerosystems International. AeI is a major supplier of systems and software to the military and transport sector, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of BAE Systems. In this role he managed AeI's CMMI programme, taking the company from CMM Level 2 to CMMI Level 4, the first SEI-registered Appraisal at Level 4 in the UK. Ric is also part of the BAE Systems corporate process improvement structure, where he leads internal CMMI appraisals (Class B and C) across the whole of BAE Systems, as well as developing and maintaining training courses. Ric is now directing a major IT project to support Boeing Helicopter fleet maintenance activities, where he is implementing CMMI principles in a service based environment. Ric is a Chartered Engineer, Member of the IEE and Association of Project Management. He has a degree from Cambridge University in Electrical Sciences.
